TypeScript-Go lands content mappers for framework files
Content mappers give tsgo a first-class integration point for frameworks that compile foreign file formats into TypeScript-shaped virtual files while preserving diagnostics and editor mappings back to the source.

What it is: Microsoft’s typescript-go PR #4712, “Content mappers”, merged by Andrew Branch and called out as likely to land in TypeScript 7.1.
Gist: Content mappers let TypeScript include otherwise unsupported file types in a program. A mapper turns a foreign file such as .vue, .svelte, .astro, or an Angular-style source into valid JS, JSX, TS, TSX, or JSON, then returns span mappings back to the original content.
The PR defines the operational contract around that idea. Projects can declare mapper packages in tsconfig.json, mapper packages describe their executable and relevant compiler options in package.json, and TypeScript talks to mapper processes over JSON-RPC through initialize, openProject, transform, and closeProject. Because this runs external code, tsc requires --runExternalCode, and VS Code only enables it for trusted workspaces.
The important part is that this is not just a preprocessor hook. The span map carries feature-level participation for hover, completions, definitions, references, rename, code actions, formatting, inlay hints, semantic tokens, folding, and other language-service behavior. Diagnostics can be mapped back into the original file, synthesized regions get special reporting, and framework-specific diagnostic directives can suppress or expect errors across virtual ranges.
There is also build-system plumbing: incremental, build, and watch mode compute transform identities, handle dynamic config with watched files, and deduplicate mapper processes by package name and version across project graphs. VS Code extensions can register content mapper contributions so opening a .vue or similar file can activate the TypeScript extension and discover configured projects.
