Gist: Ball's argument is that the ingredients sound ordinary: secure sandbox, scale to zero, ephemeral workspaces, durable agent loops, web/phone/desktop control, previews, terminal, file editor, review panel, multiplayer, and automations. The hard part is conveying the felt change once those pieces remove local friction.
The concrete shift is that he now spawns many more agents. A papercut can become a screenshot plus an agent running in its own orb, without worrying about checkouts, dirty worktrees, ports, browsers, or local resources. That also changes how far he pushes agents. When an agent produces a large patch, the workspace being remote and disposable makes it easier to ask for long-running proof: end-to-end tests, test matrices, screenshots, videos, before/after captures, and other evidence that the change works.
The useful claim is not just "cloud dev environment." It is that agents can run elsewhere for 10, 20, or 30 minutes, consume their own sandbox, and return proof instead of handing the human a pile of code and review anxiety. Ball frames this as the next large shift: more agents, more ambitious tasks, lighter review load, and more shipping because the agent owns more of the verification loop.
